With an impressive 18% winning strike rate during the past five seasons, from over 600 runners, Lawney Hill’s results speak for themselves.

Lawney and husband Alan have been training horses for over 25 years and their great enthusiasm and commitment to this endeavour has paid dividends. Devotion to the venture led to Lawney’s professional licence in 2005.

Set on 1,000 acres at the foot of the Chilterns, Woodway Farm boasts extensive training facilities. All types of horses, from unbroken four-year-olds to soured-off veterans, are welcomed to the yard. Lawney’s myriad skills ensure that a youngster is guided to achieve its full potential and an older horse regains its form.

“We pride ourselves on tailoring a horse’s training regime to its individual needs. Being a small yard, horses receive more focused attention. The stables are in an attractive, natural environment on our own farm. Each horse is therefore much more relaxed than it would be in a regimented training centre and is able to make the best of our training programme.” (Lawney)

The yard’s most high profile training achievement to date is Montjeu gelding I Have Dreamed winning the £50,000 Listed Summer Plate at Market Rasen.

There are two yards at Lawney Hill Racing. While Lawney trains horses running under National Hunt rules, Alan runs a highly successful Point-to-Point operation. This system works well as it gives youngsters the chance to have a few runs in Points before going into more competitive races under rules. It also gives older horses, who have struggled against the handicapper for too long, a chance to drop down in grade to win more races.

Situated in a prime location just off junction six of the M40, the yard is easily accessible and less than an hour by road from Central London.
