On Thursday 17th May we headed to favourable National Hunt racecourse Fontwell Park for their annual Hunter Chase evening. Both yards have a promising record at this venue, which we were keen to determine. Our first runner of the evening was owner ridden Smadynium under Dan Cherriman hot off his victory on the weekend. The trainer decided to put the blinkers back on the gelding, which most definitely encouraged him. The horse ran a cracking race under a great ride from Dan, jumping very well, before tiring 2 out and finishing just outside the placings in 5th. It was a great run from the little horse and we will aim for a mixed open soon.

Changeofluck was the other representative of the yard in the Maiden Hunter Chase jumping off hot favourite under Gina Ellis. The ground was perfect for the gelding, however in hindsight the trainer has admitted that the trip of 2m5f was perhaps slightly short, with the little yet feisty horse never making much of a challenge until running on well in the closing stages to secure 4th. This was a disappointing run from the gelding who has previously shown to be running extremely well but we will look for a race over the standard 3 miles that should suit. It was great to be back at Fontwell with two nice horses, and although not the exhilarating result of a double like last year both horses returned safe and sound which is of paramount importance!
