Saturday 16th June saw the final fixture of the 2017/18 season pointing calendar, at the usual course of Umberleigh in North Devon. We embarked on the 3+ hour journery with two potential runners. First up was According To Trev on his 9th outing of the season in the Ladies Open under Izzie Marshall. The ground was fast and firm, which is what we have been waiting for all season with him! Izzie jumped the gelding off in the seven runner race and he travelled and jumped well approaching the hill coming to the penultimate fence, which he didn't handle very well. He ran on to finish 4th, gaining his sixth placing of the season! This horse has been a true servant to the yard this season, providing our former novice jockey with some good spins and thriving under Izzie's rides. He will have a break now before being brought in for the autumn hunting and team chasing season, which he excels in! He is also for sale, please see advert below!
Our other intended runner was Stage One under Dan Cherriman in the intermediate, however the decision was made not to run due to the gelding being a younger horse and not worth risking him on ground unsuitable for him.
As always Umberleigh provided a great evening of end of season celebrations and although no races were won it was great to celebrate with the national and area champions! A full season report will be posted shortly!
