RETIRED HORSES
WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
Once our horses are ready for a change of career, we start the basics of retraining them, teaching them new skills that will allow them to excel in a different walk of life. This involves introducing coloured poles and popping over a show jump, enhancing their flatwork abilities and trying some cross country!

Many of our ex racehorses have gone on to exceed in their retirement, in many different fields. Here are a few...
ACCORDING TO TREV

Trev had been the ultimate schoolmaster at Woodway Farm, showing many of our novice riders the ropes. He has excelled in his retirement as a hunter and now is the top fieldmasters horse with the East Essex Hunt with Mark Bell
EL TORREROS

ET and his new owner Laura have built a great partnership over the last 6 years and ET has turned his hoof well to eventing
EARL GREZ

When he was still in training, Earl would be out on the hunting field as often as he could. Since retiring, he has now happily taken up hunting 24/7 and has field mastered for the Kimblewick many times with Jack.
GREAT LINK

Dan retired a few years ago and has gone strength to strength with Fee, they have taken the showing ring by storm and rarely come back without a rosette.
HUNTERS LODGE

Lodge has been a superstar at Woodway and it was never in doubt that in his next career he'd be just as good. Gaby has had Lodge since 2017 and the pair now fieldmaster for the Kimblewick, lead round open team chases and do eventing. Lodge was a finalist in the ROR Racehorse to Hunting Challenge final in 2021 which was no surprise!
SHIMBA HILLS

Shimba has always loved jumping and whilst he was still in training he went out hunting on big days with the Quorn and Kimblewick. He and Izzie are looking forward to many more days on the hunting field hedge hopping!
QUINZ

Joe's Cheltenham winner Quinz is loving life on the hunting field with Mel and regularly goes out with the Thurlow at 18 years old!
MAN OF STEEL

Steel is very much enjoying retired life with Rebecca down in Somerset!
ACCORDING TO TREV

Trev was a gentleman to ride in a race and he enjoyed showing John Simpson the ropes between the flags.
PRIDE OF PARISH

Pride recently retired after a successful career in both Point to Points and under rules. He has always been a fantastic jumper and he is loving doing even more of that!
RAIR OWL TIMZ

Although her racing life was shorter than expected, Red has been fantastic for her owners, the Glebe House Racing Club, as she is now enjoying life as a broodmare. She already has a beautiful foal called Gary, and she is back in foal again, due in Spring 2023.
CONSIGLIERE

Connie is a Woodway legend and he is now enjoying a steadier life at the ripe old age of 19, but just as enthusiastic as he has ever been!
VELVET COGNAC

Warren was quickly sought after once his retirement was announced and he now enjoys going out hunting with Lucy and Monty with the Kimblewick, which being the gentleman that he is, he's taken to it like a duck to water!
HOP 'N' SKIP

George has started a new career with Swedish Olympic event rider Anna Hilton, and he is now successfully competing at Novice level.
